To Report Results of a Previous Beam Time Allocation:
If you have previously had beam time at MUCAT, fill out an Experiment Report form before proceeding.
Unless you have purchased proprietary beam time, it is expected that one or more publications, presentations, or theses will result from your experiment. Help us track the product of your work. Please enter your publication in the APS database Publication Entry.
To Request Beam Time:
If you are a MUCAT member, fill out the MUCAT Member Beam Time Request form to request instrument time at the MUCAT sector and submit via the web. Your proposal will be reviewed. You will be contacted regarding the status of your proposal.
If you are not a MUCAT member, please enter an APS General User Proposal. Note that the UHV surface scattering chamber is accessible only by collaboration with Paul F. Miceli and / or Edward H. Conrad. The Liquid Surface Diffractometer requires collaboration with David Vaknin for the first few runs, and depending on material systems studied, possibly your own Langmuir trough.
If you have any questions, please contact Doug Robinson or Alan Goldman.
APS Experiment Safety Assessment/Approval Form (ESAF):
If your request for beam time is approved, you must submit an electronic ESAF at least seven days prior to the scheduled start of your experiment. When an ESAF is submitted, both MUCAT and the APS are automatically notified by e-mail. Both the MUCAT Safety Coordinator and APS safety personnel will review the ESAF and will contact the experiment spokesperson if there are any safety concerns that need to be addressed.
No experiment will be allowed to run until a properly completed and approved ESAF has been posted by an APS Floor Coordinator.
An ESAF is valid for 1 (one) year from the date of Beamline and APS approvals as long as the information on the form and hazards of the experiment do not change.
